Dune Edge Face West

It’s necessary to escape, to run away even if only for a short time, away from something that we thought was going to be good. Sometimes we struggle to figure out where we are, so we look for what’s familiar, what we might know in a barren landscape. I ran away to make this work. I ran away from a job that had obstructed my ability to feel like myself, from a life that I thought I was going to be happy in. I ran away to the state that I was born in, Michigan, the state known for its brutal winters and rocky landscape. The blanket of snow was warm despite the bitter cold, I felt at peace in Northern Michigan. My cameras by my side, I went through roll upon roll of film pointing my camera toward anything that felt like it had a sense of home to it. A Midwestern familiarity of these structures while surrounded by sand dunes coated in a frozen winter cover.
